Moonstruck: Strawberry Moon

I drove up to Kelowna yesterday for a visit with friends, and a stay at the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort.

With a 10th floor room, I had great views of Okanagan Lake, the hills and dozens of boats docked at the Kelowna Yacht Club.

After the sun dropped, some clouds rolled in …

… and the full moon rose. It may have been on gorgeous display throughout the night, but I think it was 3:30 a.m. or so when its light pulled me from my sleep – and am I glad it did.

I hope you enjoy these shots of the dramatic display. I have my friend Bette for informing me, earlier in the week, that Friday would mark this year’s “Strawberry Moon”. The strawberry reference alludes not to the moon’s colour, but to June being the month in which we get to enjoy  fresh crops of strawberries. According to IFL Science, it’s the Algonquins who gave the June moon this name.
