Snow

A thought for your day, featuring photography from my travels. This shot, and the subsequent videos and images: It was bound to happen before spring arrives, and we did have our first snowfall of the season in Vancouver yesterday. It’s also snowing again today, and this is a big deal in our city.

While the skies were grey, it was wonderful hearing the crunch that came with walking in this snow. I once again had lucky timing since, as you’ll see in the first video below, a group of ducks came flying right in my line of vision while I was recording that moment in nature. While you’ll see the ducks on your screen, they show up even more beautifully playing this on a tv screen.

Anyone who’s been to Vancouver’s Stanley Park, or even heard of it, will know that this spot is renowned for its majestic evergreens. In the fog earlier this month, you’d be hard pressed to recognise the park at all. I…

Harbour Lights

As Christmas drew close this year, the skies cleared and we enjoyed some sunny, clear days. This led to a minor dusting of snow, and so I made my way up to another mountain to capture views to the west….

Foggy, Foggy Days

That’s what we had for a few consecutive days here in Vancouver. I was actually glad that the fog carried through to an early December weekend, because it meant that I could make an early Saturday morning drive up to…

All Washed Up

… but these logs just off the shores of Jericho Beach, earlier this year, were still striking. Thinly wrapped with snow, they gleamed in the afternoon sunlight. These mountain and water views are also pretty impressive. That’s Lighthouse Park dwarfed by…

Game On

It’s rare for Vancouver area lakes to freeze over to the extent that people can skate on them. I remember being on Como Lake in 1988, and it’s been a couple of decades since Trout Lake, below, was frozen. With clear…

Plunging into 2017

Here’s a look at English Bay on a cold, but sunny winter day. We’ve had plenty of those lately, but that wasn’t the case on New Year’s Day. Nonethless, we continued our tradition of traipsing down to English Bay to take part…
